As part of Germany's global cooperation efforts, we began our engagement in Iraq during the humanitarian crisis in 2014 with support to refugees, internally displaced people, and their host communities. Since 2017, we have significantly scaled up our activities to support Iraq’s proposed reform process focusing on reconstruction, peacebuilding, good governance, and economic development throughout the whole of Iraq. Our aim is to create better prospects and sustainably improve people’s living conditions. With almost 500 Iraqi and international experts employed, and together with our partners from civil society, international organizations, and specialized service providers from the private sector, we work flexibly to deliver relevant and effective solutions. Working hand in hand with our Iraqi and Kurdish partners in Government, we ensure local ownership and sustainability of our interventions.
